ProjectsColombo 142

Colombo 142 is an ambitious urban regeneration project that transforms a massive existing office building into contemporary residential architecture, capable of blending modern living needs with the surrounding urban context. Overlooking Via Cristoforo Colombo, the complex occupies a strategic position, acting as an elegant hinge between the historic Garbatella district and the vast green corridor stretching from Parco Scott towards the Caffarella Park and the Via Appia Antica.

The project’s design draws its deep inspiration from the iconic “suburban hostels” (alberghi suburbani) of Garbatella, 1920s residential structures renowned for their community-centered approach and articulated façades. Leaving behind its former massive and anonymous appearance, Colombo 142 reclaims a strong, recognizable identity, using shapes, colors, and materials to mediate between the infrastructural scale of the major urban artery and the more intimate, domestic scale of the historic district.

The original volume is visually fragmented and lightened through a sequence of alternating façades that give the building a vibrant rhythm.
Part of the façade is clad in red brick, a clear homage to Roman historical identity and nearby archaeological ruins. This solution enhances the existing structural grid, creating refined interplays of light and shadow.
Contrasting with the materiality of the brick are the newly added deep balconies, featuring a modern, light-finished steel structure. This addition ensures maximum permeability to the outside, opening the homes to natural light and the landscape.

A contemporary architecture that embraces the historic identity of Garbatella and the greenery of Rome’s great parks, redefining the elegance of living on Via Cristoforo Colombo.

Colombo 142 is not just a place to live, but a true community. The ground floor, conceived as a monolithic base that unifies the upper volumes, is the beating heart of the complex.
Here, residents can enjoy:
– A large shared green courtyard and private gardens.
– Dedicated multifunctional areas located near the stairwells.
– Generous, flexible spaces facing Via Cristoforo Colombo, ideal for hosting coworking areas, fitness centers, and recreational hubs.
– Crowning the building, the tenth floor houses private lavatories and spectacular “glass boxes” (vepas) surrounded by panoramic terraces, accessible via internal stairs from the penthouse apartments.

The elegance of red brick and the lightness of steel blend into an innovative residential complex, designed to offer open spaces, natural light, and an authentic sense of community.
